Do you live in Ottawa?
Are you looking for help with a longstanding musculoskelatal condition?
Have you tried many other physical therapies without any longterm success?
If so then Ottawa Functional Osteopathy may be the solution you are looking for.
What is Ottawa Functional Osteopathy?
Ottawa Functional Osteopathy is an approach that looks to identify the root cause of symptoms.
This approach was developed by Dominick Hussey, founder of Capital Osteopathy.
How is Ottawa Functional Osteopathy different from other forms of Osteopathy?
Unlike other types of Osteopathy that treat your physical body, Functional Osteopathy is also concerned with healing your physiology and mind and how they may be affecting your symptoms.
What conditions can be helped by Functional Osteopathy?
Functional Osteopathy is excellent for helping chronic longstanding musculoskeletal conditions that have not responded to other physical treatment including chiropractic, massage therapy, other types of osteopathy, and physiotherapy.
Examples of conditions helped by Functional Osteopathy include:
- Back Pain
- Concussions and Head Injuries
- Fall Injuries
- Joint Pain
- Neck Pain
- Sporting Injuries
- Whiplash Injuries
- and many more
How do Functional Osteopaths Work?
Functional Osteopaths work less with their hands than other Osteopathic practitioners.
They understand that if the body is displaying symptoms then they must consider which physical, physiological and emotional factors are the root cause.
Functional Osteopathy is very much a partnership in healing and is equally about the practitioner guiding the client through a journey towards healing as well as hands-on treatment.
From time to time Domick may suggest that other treatment modalities may be be appropriate, such as Functional medicine.
If this is the case, the client will need to book a separate consultation for billing and insurance reasons.
Dominick will not provide a osteopathic receipt for a consultation that includes non-osteopathic services.
What happens in the first appointment?
The purpose of the first meeting is mainly to gather information. This process will include taking a full medical history and a physical examination. After the gathering process, the practitioner will advise you:
- What is the nature of your problem?
- What is the cause(s)?
- Whether functional osteopathy is an appropriate and safe treatment to help your problem.
- At this point the session will include some hands-on therapies as well as some general lifestyle modifications.
At follow-up visits, your practitioner will give more extensive hands-on treatment as well as more detailed dietary, nutritional and lifestyle advice.
How many follow-up treatments will I need?
On average you will need between 6 - 8 treatments.
How long are the appointments?
Initial appointments are 60 minutes, and follow-up appointments are 20-30 minutes long but may be longer.
What should I wear in appointments?
We recommend that you bring a pair of shorts and a sports bra to each appointment.
