In This Article:
Let’s begin looking at common pain Issues that lead people to seek treatment from an Osteopath.
Common Pain Issues that Lead People to Seek Treatment from an Osteopath.
As an Osteopath, I often encounter various pain issues that my patients experience. Some of the common ones are:
- Headaches and Migraines
- Jaw Pain
- Neck Pain
- Shoulder Pain
- Upper Back Pain
- Lower Back Pain
- Sciatica
- Hip Pain
- Knee Pain
- Ankle and Foot Pain
When you experience discomfort in your muscles and joints could be a sign that your body is not in harmony or experiencing some underlying health issue.
In my experience, pain is usually the initial sign of this dis-harmony and the primary motivator for individuals to seek Osteopath treatment.
As an Osteopath, my primary responsibility is identifying and addressing the root causes of pain problems.
Sometimes, the illness symptoms may not immediately manifest in your muscles and joints.
Now, let’s examine additional indications of dis-harmony and explain why it’s necessary to receive care from an Osteopath, starting with poor sleep.
Poor Sleep
Experiencing trouble with falling asleep, waking up in the middle of the night and being unable to fall back asleep, and waking up earlier than usual without feeling rested are clear indications of poor sleep.
Researchers have discovered that inadequate sleep is a risk factor for various health conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack, and stroke.
Common causes of poor sleep include the following:
- Taking rest for granted. Many people do not realize how important sleep is.
- Too much caffeine and alcohol.
- Shift work.
- Jet lag.
- Eating late.
- Failing to wind down before bed.
- Sleep disorders such as Sleep Apnoea.
Improved diet and lifestyle choices can control several reasons.
My extensive experience shows that chronic stress and unresolved emotional or physical traumas are the leading causes of poor sleep.
With my extensive experience as an osteopath, I am fully equipped to aid individuals in conquering their present stress by tackling any past emotional and physical traumas that may impede their bodies.
I am equipped with the essential abilities to assist individuals in decreasing their response to stress and achieving a better sense of overall health.
Let’s explore the reason why people seek treatment from Osteopaths – to alleviate concussion symptoms.
Concussion Symptoms
According to the CDC, concussion symptoms could include the following:
- Headache or “pressure” in “the head.”
- Nausea or vomiting.
- Balance problems or dizziness, or double or blurry vision.
- Bothered by light or noise.
- Feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy.
- Confusion, concentration or memory problems.
- Just not “feeling right” or “feeling down.”
When the body experiences physical trauma, such as an impact on the head, the nerve endings in the skin become stimulated and send messages to the central nervous system (CNS).
With a significant impact, these nerve endings become over-stimulated and never turn off, so they continually send messages into the CNS.
Over time, the CNS becomes overwhelmed and dysregulated along with the autonomic nervous system, leading to the above physical symptoms.
As an experienced osteopath, in most cases, I have the techniques that enable me to switch off the overstimulated nerve endings, calm the nervous system, and resolve symptoms.
Let’s explore why people seek treatment from Osteopaths – to alleviate digestive symptoms.
Digestive Symptoms
In my osteopathic practice, I frequently encounter common digestive symptoms such as:
- Acid reflux and heartburn
- Burping
- Abdominal pain
- Bloating
- Gas
- Diahrea
- Constipation
Medical professionals, specifically gastroenterologists, identify these indications as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
The typical physical cause of IBS includes bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine (SIBO).
The cause of SIBO is reduced motility of the muscles in the lining of the intestines.
A dysregulated nervous system is a common cause of poor motility.
With my extensive knowledge as an osteopath, I possess the necessary skills to soothe the nervous system by detecting and addressing unresolved emotional and physical traumas.
As a Functional Medicine practitioner, I can offer advice on dietary and supplement options that may be beneficial.
Let’s explore another reason people seek treatment from Osteopaths – to alleviate digestive symptoms.
Fibromyalgia
According to the American College of Rheumatology, which has the most current diagnostic criteria published in 2011.
Fibromyalgia is a condition in people, generally women, who experience body-wide achiness or pain.
Body wide or global means it can’t be in one place or two, that’s, or even three places.
It can’t be regionalized or localized.
So it has to be this pervasive achiness with pain in the softer tissues.
There is no joint pain but in the muscles, fascia, tendons, and the softer compliant tissues.
The pain is felt in the upper body, lower body, left side, right side, along the body’s midline, and out in the periphery.
Fibromyalgia is more than just pain.
True Fibromyalgia has with it a conglomeration of symptoms that we associate with something called central sensitivity.
This disorder is caused by CNS dysregulation.
So, therefore, it has other symptoms related to things that the central nervous system controls.
Other symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia include the following:
- Problems with memory or clear thinking, known as “fibro fog.”
- Depression or anxiety
- Migraines or tension headaches
- Digestive problems like IBS or heartburn
- Irritable or overactive bladder
- Pelvic pain
- Jaw pain
As an experienced osteopath, I am equipped with the expertise to detect and address unresolved emotional and physical traumas, thereby calming the nervous system.
Let’s delve into another reason why individuals seek treatment from osteopaths – to relieve symptoms of ADHD.
ADHD
ADHD, also known as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, is a prevalent mental disorder that impacts many children.
Symptoms of ADHD include
- Inattention (not being able to keep focus)
- Hyperactivity (excess movement that is not fitting to the setting) and
- Impulsivity (hasty acts that occur in the moment without thought)
ADHD is a persistent and disabling condition that affects many areas of an individual’s life, such as academic and work accomplishments, social interactions, and daily activities.
ADHD can lead to poor self-esteem and social function in children when not appropriately treated.
Adults with ADHD may experience poor self-worth, sensitivity towards criticism, and increased self-criticism, possibly stemming from higher levels of criticism throughout life.
In my experience as an Osteopath treating ADHD in children, the cause of ADHD is primarily related to nervous system dysregulation due to the following:
- Past emotional trauma
- Past physical trauma such as a difficult birth or concussions.
- CNS inflammation typically from the gut, such as food sensitivities.
As an experienced osteopath, I am equipped with the expertise to detect and address unresolved emotional and physical traumas, thereby calming the nervous system.
