What happens in the first appointment?
The purpose of the first meeting is mainly to gather information. This process will include taking a full medical history and a physical examination. After the gathering process, the practitioner will advise you:
- What is the nature of your problem?
- What is the cause(s)?
- Whether manual osteopathy is an appropriate and safe treatment to help your problem.
- If yes, your practitioner will outline a treatment plan including further investigations, exercises, and lifestyle modifications if necessary.
If there is time left, your practitioner will begin some treatment.

The number of treatments you will need will be dependent on how long you have had the problem. For acute or problems that have started within the last three weeks, they normally require between 2 and four treatments on average.
